Questions about LearningExpress Library and PrepSTEP

What is LearningExpress Library?
LearningExpress Library helps students and adult learners improve the skills required for academic and career success. There are practice sets and tutorials to develop skills in math, reading, writing, and basic sciences. Also, there are practice tests to help prepare for taking the GED, SAT, ACT, AP, PSAT/NMSQT, career certification tests such as NCLEX-RN, Praxis I and II, and more. Popular software tutorials and basic computer instruction are also included, as well as resources to help users decide on careers, build resumes, prepare for interviews and resources related to life skills like managing money. 

What is PrepSTEP for High Schools? 
PrepSTEP for High Schools is a subset of the LearningExpress Library resources that are most relevant to high school users, with some additional core skills content (reading, math, etc.). For educators, there is also the option to integrate some content into a learning management system and then assign it to students. This flyer has more information for educators. 

Should I use LearningExpress Library or PrepSTEP for High Schools? // How do I access each?
High school students should start with PrepSTEP for High Schools. Either click on the lightbulb logo or on the "High School" link. Middle schoolers should use LearningExpress Library. Content is divided into centers, and the most relevant center for middle school is called School Center. Click on the "Middle School" link to be directed to LearningExpress Library's School Center. All users are able to click on the Centers menu in the blue toolbar at the top of the page to explore other centers. That’s true whether you are using LEL or PrepSTEP, although some centers are different between the two. Users who start on PrepSTEP for High Schools can explore LearningExpress Library by clicking on the Public Library tab to the left of PrepSTEP. The same login will let you access all of the platforms.

How do I create an account?
The resources are available to all students and educators in Oregon. The same login will let you access all of the platforms. An existing login created for LearningExpress Library will work for PrepSTEP.

If you have a Google account, you can use the "Sign in with Google" option to sign in with your existing Google account, meaning you will not need a separate account or login for LearningExpress Library / PrepSTEP. 

If you would rather have a separate login for LearningExpress Library / PrepSTEP, follow these steps to create an account: 

  • Access any Find Information page on OSLIS (secondary studentsecondary educator).
  • Click on the relevant link under the lightbulb logo -- either "Middle School" or "High School."
  • Click on Sign In / Register in the blue toolbar near the top.
  • Click on Register.
  • Fill out the short form and click on Register.
    • The email address you enter will become your username.
    • You will be prompted to choose your own password.
    • If you do not have an email address, click on the "Register without email" link above the Email textbox, and fill out that form instead. If you choose the option with no email, there will be no way to receive information about updating your password, if you forget it. 

Do I need a separate account for LearningExpress Library and PrepSTEP for High Schools?
No, you do not need separate accounts. If you already have a LearningExpress Library account, that login will work with LearningExpress Library and with PrepSTEP for High Schools. The same login will let you access all of the platforms. 

How do I use LearningExpress Library or PrepSTEP for High Schools?
These video guides explain how to log in; how to access tutorials, tests, and resources; how to use My Center, and more. The page defaults to the full-length tutorial, but you can choose specific topics from the menu at the top of the page. There is also a FAQ. Both resources are available from the Help menu in the blue toolbar on the top right of any LEL or PrepSTEP page.
